Today is #WorldWetlandsDay2022 raising awareness about the role of wetlands for people and planet.
We taking the opportunity to highlight wetland birds with these #lithographs from John Gould's 'Birds of Europe', 1873. Great crested grebe, moorhens and kingfisher.
Are you taking part in the #BigGardenBirdWatch over the #weekend? These are some of the birds you may be lucky enough to spot. #SciArt are all #lithographs published in John Gould's 'Birds of Europe', 1837, & 'Birds of Great Britain', 1873.
Born #OTD 1776 – Charles Hamilton Smith. He assembled a huge collection of watercolour drawings to illustrate his books & talks. ZSL's former Secretary, Professor McNeill Alexander presented ZSL with the Coulton portfolio of 55 watercolours, all except one are probably by Smith.
Today we say goodbye to 'Obaysch' or at least some items linked to him, they are going away to be exhibited @BarberInstitute as part of their new exhibition 'Miss Clara and the celebrity beast in art'.
Do go & visit 'Obaysch' there 🦛https://t.co/hGpjL862ox 🦏
Happy #WorldLemurDay!
A lovely lithograph of a lemur by Lear (Edward Lear) from 'Gleanings from the menagerie and aviary at Knowsley Hall', 1846-50.
We do like alliteration & tongue twisters, they do seem appropriate for someone remembered for his 'nonsense'.
