animated features and shows with ongoing plots seem really hard to pull together into a satisfying logical whole. how many of them actually succeed at it?
that's not to say i don't like pure spectacle! especially if the visual ideas are compelling and well-staged. i often find a great animated sequence can work as a film-within-a-film (or show) that is superior to the whole. maybe that's why i tend to prefer music videos and shorts
you may have noticed that this famous scene from "tortoise wins by a hare" deftly illustrates bugs bunny's character, in that he is a cocky jerk who is really, really mad about losing but you also feel empathy for him and it makes you invested in the rest of the cartoon
