2000: Inu Yasha
A gamechanger at the turn of the century for anime in the west. Also never EVER do drinking games with this show because you will fucking die in 5 minutes.
2001: Fruits Basket
I haven't finished the remake yet because this one already destroyed me 20 years ago.
2002: Princess Tutu
Oh this one is so deceptive. Watch it crush you with feels. Yes. Good. Also Sakurai is in it.
Runner up: Getbackers (lol Sakurai is in this one too)
2003: Fullmetal Alchemist
Namesake. This one crawled so that Brotherhood could sprint. Sometimes I wish I could transmute the two since there's things I like about both.
Runner up: Planetes
2006: Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion
Automatically wins because Suzaku is in it. A show about noodle people, terrorism, and rollerblading robots sponsored by Pizza Hut.
Runner up: Ouran High School Host Club, Death Note
2007: Kaiji: Ultimate Survivor
AKA 2007 Squid Game. I still have nightmares about the human derby arc. Zawa zawa...
Also I forgot season 2 was in 2011 and it should be in there whoops.
2008: Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2
This automatically wins because it has Suzaku. But this fucking pizzabutt trainwreck anime also made /A/ cry. And it made me cry. Do you know how hard that is? I'm still wrecked. 5 stars.
Runner ups: Kaiba, Chi's Sweet Home
2014: Monthly Girls Nozaki-kun
This one's just genuinely very funny and I love all the characters. I want a season 2.
Runner ups: Shirobako, Parasyte, I Can't Understand What My Husband Is Saying
2021: SK8 the Infinity
Everyone would call me a giant liar if I didn't say this one. It's a heartfelt and heartpounding sports anime about life, love, passion, and connections.
This was difficult. 2021 was a good year.
Runner ups: Backflip!!, ODDTAXI, Uramichi-Oniisan
2022: The Orbital Children (地球外少年少女)
I *might* be biased because I knows some really cool awesome people involved in this one! You want hardcore sci-fi? This will give you so much that you'll go galaxy brain by the end.
