Finished reading Tezuka's "Unico".
This was surprisingly melancholic as a manga originally for children. This is entirely a tale about this poor creature never being able to find happiness for himself, while he's able to bring joy to everyone around him.
Finished reading George Akiyama's "Son of Shaka"
An early 80s thriller that ran in Shonen Jump about a mysterious guy who poses as a cult leader wannabe in a village, but he turns out to be a total psycho and wants to turn the village into a storehouse for nuclear weapons.
I was today years old when I finally realized Ultraman Ace's Yapool was likely named after a sci-fi novel that blends horror and BDSM with a lot of really CURSED stuff
and of course, such novel was adapted into manga by Ishinomori Shotaro in 1971
Finished reading Shirato Sanpei's "SAVANNA"
A silent manga set in a prehistory-like setting showing the hardships of primitive men in their fight for survival. And since it's Shirato we're talking about, we also have class struggle allegories as well.
This was pretty cool!
Also, the way most female characters' figures (the ones that aren't kids or huge monster hags, at least) in OP are drawn is clearly reminiscent of how Tokuhiro often draws attractive women.
Even the "huge honkers and thin waist" shapes are similar, and I like that.
There's plenty more but I think I'll wrap this thread up with some more Ultraman, Toei's Devilman, Dunbine and Mazinger Z.
Check them out later. Some really cool shit out there
I'm using my weekend to dwell in old anime movies/OVAs like crazy and I feel like I'm 15 again
today I watched these
I seriously don't doubt Gatchaman Crowds is a good show but why the need to shit on the original like this as if the new one "COMPLETELY SURPASSED IT Making its existence not needed anymore"?
