The blue eyes may come to mind first, as it's a memorable design solution. White duck, make the eyes blue so they pop more. But plenty have opted for white eyes on Donald.

@mrneilesq Yeah that's what I'm wondering, if shadows were painted solid black on a layer below. I've seen some examples of that on animation cels (googled). Seemingly opaque paint.
