Most classic cartoon characters are a pain to draw—getting the volume and small proportions right. Probably why they varied so much over the decades.
The opposite of SpongeBob, if you ask me, is a cartoon character like Bugs Bunny. Who, is a pain in the ass to draw no matter how you slice it—face and head included.
Thank goodness he's been in great hands lead by @JimSoper4 and crew.
