Here's @cdylanm poster art for an unbuilt CBJ wacky race ride! "Bear Country meets Wacky Soap Box meets Wacky Races" at Disney! Too bad they didn't build it! So "wacky"!
Concept sketch for 1953 unbuilt “Tractor hot rod ride” with arguing teens. Too much like the real world?
Our original 20’s Main Street paid homage to great American artists like Edward Hopper with real versions of the famous “Nighthawks Diner” as depicted by Herb Ryman (where Walt’s is today)
@nidlpgeek I tried to use Jim as much as possible as his work adds so much to Main Street. His “city posters” were legend long before DLP. A great guy too.
Conflicted Identity. Either you dedicate a space to “show” or display (i.e. Disneyland Firehouse or Cinema) or create a great store. It’s tough to do both well, as in the end, MSM is not about cars or unique product. Car theme is tough to translate.
DL Main Street illustrator Harry Johnson came from film. Here’s a Paris Cafe from “Ninotchka”, an MGM Garbo film. Beautiful work. Herb Ryman admired his work as well.
2 pieces from my own collection of “The Robe”. Can’t be sure who’s hand, but adore them just the same. Epic is as Epic does.
Taking a moment to reflect on a hero that inspired and visualized that “world on the move”, pal and visionary Syd Mead. What a designer!
