i sort of have a thing for happy stories tho, so the good news is that at this point in his life Alex is surrounded by people who will celebrate the nice things & help him get through any of the bad shit that creeps up ❤️❤️

now if things get REALLY bad, like someone gets mad at him despite his best efforts to keep them happy, then the Freeze response sets in and he shuts down. he doesn’t want to be around others, gets spacey, and has no idea what to do with himself.

and for all his bravado, alex runs on stunningly low self-confidence. he operates on the assumption that if he’s not exactly what the people around him want, they’ll leave him.

chapter one showed a glimpse into our boy’s codependence and lack of boundaries, but there’s more to come.

fun fact: a lot of trauma responses bother the people around you, which may or may not be a problem in future chapters :’)

Alex’s traumas include loss, bullying, & emotional abuse that set him up to be an INTENSE ppl pleaser. he’s good at being there for others, but doesn’t want to bother anyone with hIS problems. we see this A LOT in chapter two btw
