AND THE GOLD STANDARD
With Denny O'Neil writing, Neal Adams returned The Batman to his dark roots. And while Adams did some amazing covers for DETECTIVE, his interior art for the BATMAN series are still considered legendary. For good reason, don't you think?
IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR THE FLASH
Look no further than my most recent column... on https://t.co/5IPXIBvaqr Full disclosure: no monkeys are featured https://t.co/fA9CZxIsUJ But heh, I will post some Flash covers this weekend... and next week part 2 of my column! So you are covered!
NEAL ADAMS' WONDER WOMAN
And Superman and Son by Nick Cardy.
Ah, man! Those 70s books were beyond cool. You dig?
WHEN EARTHS COLLIDE
In 1978, we got this beautiful book. 72 pages by Gerry Conway, Rich Buckler and Dick Giordano (and a host of other inkers helping out). And you had Superman, Captain Marvel, Supergirl and Mary Marvel. Young readers' minds blown across the world! What a book!
HAPPY 4TH OF JULY
And remember: Fascists have always misjudged free men!
CAPTAIN AMERICA says so!
A FATE WORSE THAN DEATH
While Kaänga was presented as white savior (of Ann Mason) at first, the dynamic had shifted. And soon it became apparent, to who these books were marketed to. Art by: Dan Zolnerowich. Rafael Astarita, Joe Doolin
SPACESHIPS ARE SEXY YOU ALL
While for his comic book covers, Schomburg was often asked to do the more racy stuff, for his scifi work for the pulp and paperback publishers, they mostly asked for sexy spaceships. Go figure!
ONE OF OUR FLYING SAUCERS IS MISSING
Virgil Finlay painted many scifi pulp covers in the 1940s and 1950s. Here we have some of his original paintings... as always sans copy.
FIN'S WOMEN
This is so wonderful. And to think these were used as interior art in-between a lot of text inside your average pulp magazine. Not to take away from the stories, but this belongs on the cover or in an art gallery. My take!
HOLD THAT POSE
A pose Vargas would use for his "Varga Girls" with Esquire and than again with Playboy where he kinda forgot to paint the clothes on. What do you prefer? The sweet inoccence of the 40s or the "Playboy look"?
