Raphael @NationalGallery has only a week to go. Don’t miss it. Sensational and moving works by an artist who really deserves the label ‘great’. Here are a few of my favourite things.
If you are in Paris before Sunday, I recommend Impressionist Decorations @MuseeOrangerie co-curated by my former colleague Anne Robbins & Sylvie Patry. Many beautiful works I’d not seen before. And a Cezanne signed Ingres that could almost be a Botticelli - painted for his home!
I love Titian's Diana and Actaeon. It was one of the last paintings I looked at last week, when @NationalGallery shut. And yet, I can still visit it whenever I want on the NG website. Museums might be closed, but their collections are open. #CultureInQuarantine
I enjoyed seeing the new Armada acquisition @UlsterMuseum and the beautiful Lavery display that opened last week. Great to have an Armada picture beside all the finds from the shipwrecked Girona, part of the doomed fleet.
Art lovers, I’m talking about this Courbet still-life, painted in prison, at 4 pm today in Room 41 @NationalGallery - come and join me if you can #artforfree #nationalgallery #courbet
#mantegnabellini has now opened in Berlin, triumphantly curated by @dagmar_kk and #NevilleRowley - another reason to go to Berlin this spring. It has been wonderful working together - also with @theidlewoman - on this international project.
A further taster of what @DrJaninaRamirez and I’ll be discussing on Friday at 6.30 @NationalGallery #ArtHistory
