The difference between the 1983 and 2012 aftermaths of his acquired deafness are in how he handled it. He initially locks himself away, refusing to talk to anyone, until he finally stops hiding and is upfront with what happened to him. A big part is the support from his brother.
Clint is then deafened again in his 2012 solo. An assassin known as the Clown pierced Clint's ears with a pair of his own arrows, causing massive trauma to his inner and middle ears. Many sequences in this comic are purely visual with little to no text.
