A recent research paper by G. Ferreira and team (January 2022) has identified the first evidence of #microplastic contamination in deep sea #cephalopods in the South Atlantic.

Living in low oxygen environments, the vampire squid has the lowest metabolic rate of all cephalopods! They are also neutrally buoyant which means they don’t use up much energy swimming.

Group formation in #cephalopods is rare and is mainly seen in squid species or associated with mating. However, we have shown that sub-adult European cuttlefish exhibit #shoaling in groups of up to 30 individuals along the South coast of the UK. 🌍
