Khamala is the perfect POV character for the modern comics reader who is aware of marvel’s superheroes and loves them because of movies, tv shows, video games, and wants to be invited into the world of the comics. She is charming and fun, and brings the reader into her life.
Marvel comics tagline since the silver age has been “the world outside your window” as a company they use superheroes to tell human stories about real world issues and problems. No character feels like someone “outside our window” today quite like Kamala Khan.
This story is also a story about young love, heartbreak and dealing with the emotions in our past. The story is split into two parallel narratives, past and present, thst dlowly work together
This comic is many things but most of all it is a loving tribute to Batman, Gotham, and Batman comics as a whole. This is the comic you want to put in someone’s hands to make them “get it.”
While this story clearly has heart it also has one of the best Green Arrow fights on any comic.
In addition to the fun, this team is not afraid to dive into the heart that this team has, setting up and paying off big emotional beats across multiple arcs. The love for the FF is apparent on every page and becomes infectious as you read.
