According to current showrunner Al Jean, the color of the Loch Ness monster would originally be green, but when the overseas animation was completed, it had a "kind of pinkish" color. Because it would be too expensive to re-color, the staff decided to keep the monster as it was.

With this episode, the artists at the animation studio in South Korea had begun stenciling the eyes with a template, which according to Lynch resulted in "strangely round eyes which look a little too big sometimes and much too perfect. Which is very un-Simpsons like."

The post-animatic rewrite was this joke in which Homer uses the radio dial to tip the precariously balanced plow back onto the road. This joke was created by @ConanOBrien, and the writers liked it so much that they included it in the episode.

Krusty's religion had not been part of the original concept of the character, so Kogen and Wolodarsky decided to parody The Jazz Singer and establish that Krusty is Jewish. Krusty's last name, Krustofsky, was established in this episode as pitched by Al Jean.
