Winona Ryder was a fan of the show. @DaveMirkin recalled that more writers came to her recording session than any other at the time. Her character's name was derived from the names of two of Mike Scully's daughters, Allison and Taylor.
The episode includes the debut of the Olmec head Xtapolapocetl. After the episode, it was (somehow) moved into the Simpsons' basement, where it has since reappeared as a prop in the background of several episodes, although never in a major role.
In Lionel Hutz's dream of what the world would be like without lawyers, the writers had wanted to use the song "I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing", which was used in Coca-Cola advertisements, but they could not get the rights to it. Instead, they recorded a soundalike tune.
It is remarkable that first and second future-based Simpsons episodes ("Lisa's Wedding" and "Bart to the Future") aired on the same day five years apart from each other (March 19, 1995 and 2000). #OnThisDay threads coming later today!
That would be this, which debuted in the episode Cape Feare. (It is also parody of the film score from the film Cape Fear.) @mxedtr @TheAlfClausen https://t.co/hmBWhSYh1R
