the Skull-Faced Bookseller Honda-San manga is available from too! It's only 4 volumes and it's pretty hilarious. https://t.co/bLrqqFYYJl

one of my favorite parts of The Untouchable Midori-kun is the mini-comic at the end of vol. 1, about the plight of the sparkly roses that pop up behind Midori whenever he says something "idol-like"

A few years ago, , + have tried to have kid-specific manga imprints. Maybe both were casualties of a weaker market for manga at the time. Many are still available, just not top of mind for most readers or librarians nowadays.

It's not just Doraemon either -- a lot of the BIGGEST kid manga / anime / TV show franchises in Japan have had... challenges replicating their success with kids in N. America. (Anpan Man is on , PrettyCure / "Glitter Force" is on & are no where near as popular here)

With manga, it's not easy to figure out what's "for kids" just by looking at a cover. The classifications from Japan aren't always helpful either, since several "all-ages" manga were originally published in seinen manga magazines (originally meant for adult readers)

I'm always excited when I find a new all-ages appropriate manga I can recommend to librarians -- but a little bummed when they're digital only releases, like Medalist, about a painfully shy girl trying to be a top-class figure skater fr. https://t.co/qGfBVbt7Or

The list of "ok for kids under 12" manga is always agonizingly short given how popular manga is -- there's the no-brainers like Chi's Sweet Home, Witch Hat Atelier and Yotsuba&! but it kind of pains me that somehow Naruto, My Hero Academia, Case Closed are not 'safe' picks here.

Nice review of “I Got Pregnant With His Majesty’s Child” / “Le Coeur et le Devoir” (the Heart and the Duty - much nicer title in French) - read it in English on https://t.co/x9b8iFiKot

Also delighted to meet Keika Lee, founder/director of tonight, a hand-drawn animation studio based in the SF bay area. Go watch the trailer for their animated short, Odd Dog: https://t.co/O0n6sOszqD & see what they’re working on now: https://t.co/qfEPSTXJtj

My hope is that this new generation of global comics creators influenced by manga don’t settle for mimicking what JP/KR is already exporting to the world, but use it as a launching point, to create in their own style & tell stories that take comics to new places, as L&R did
