I met professor Noyuri Mima when she invited me to speak at a few years ago. She's a really smart, thoughtful global thinker/author/speaker about science education, AI and creativity and more. Here's her English website: https://t.co/Na7q9okiub

While there were manga biographies of famous women in the kids section of JP bookshops, Professor Mima noted that they are about women "who were called "Mrs.", helped others, & worked hard even though they had disabilities," while the US biographies for kids were more diverse.

so you know how i was noticing the trend of ridiculously long / titles? I wonder what it would look like if American comics followed that trend? e.g. what would the over-explaining light novel-type title be for your fave US comics series or graphic novel?

For years, I only read up to vol 12 of One Piece -- but thanks to the pandemic (+ a subscription), it was my catch-up binge-read. It was great to finally get why it's perennially one of the best-selling, most beloved manga series in the world. https://t.co/SgRfP2EeOP

An interesting approach to showing dialogue in different languages in comics, as seen in Running After a Breakup by Dolbae on https://t.co/D2zyL9U5zk

Yeah, i understand how / why that stance might be controversial in that context. But it’s too bad — i think there’s a lot to be said about how comics/manga/BD creators have been influenced by each other. Love this scene from Losers, showing pre-Lupin Monkey Punch w/ MAD magazine

To give you some idea of what Comitia looks like before the pandemic & what I saw on Sunday, here’s a pic from 2017 & from 2022. Aisles were more spaced out, fewer attendees in general, but still lively and interesting.

Many Comitia attendees buy the catalog / event ticket ahead of time to browse and have a plan for which tables to hit first. This is key, since the show is only open for 1 day, from 11 am to 3 pm (4 hours)

Love seeing these Bride’s Story scenes with Pariya playing with her kitten. As seen at today. https://t.co/CGS2BhgRP6

The Kaoru Mori / Bride’s Story exhibit at starts with a gallery of cover art paintings with her commentary - “i wanted to create something with a sense of movement that would be eye-catching at a glance”
