While Ikki Kajiwara isnt featured on this Shonen Magazine cover, he probably should have been! He wrote several series by the artists pictured here, including Kyojin no Hoshi, Karate Baka Ichidai and Ashita no Joe,

Ashita no Joe by Asao Takamori (aka Ikki Kajiwara) and Tetsuya Chiba was the inspiration for Megalobox. There’s a scene in the anime where both creators make a cameo appearance together and share a drink

Tetsuya Chiba has had a long and fascinating career in manga. He’s drawn shojo manga. sports manga. heart-warming slice-of-life manga - and he’s still drawing today. He recently announced resuming drawing after recent heart surgery in late 2021

This genial looking guy is Takao Saito, creator of super assassin Golgo 13. @VIZMedia published a 13-volume “greatest hits” collection of this 203-vol(!) series back when. If you’re lucky, you might find a print copy, but it’s also available digitally too https://t.co/a5hkl7au3K

I’ll have to dig deeper to get into Joya Kagemaru’s manga, but a quick search for his manga pops up a pretty hard-boiled mix of seinen action/martial arts stories

As @MangaCast pointed out, Jiro Tsunoda is pictured just below Joya Kagemaru. Tsunoda was the original artist on Karate Baka Ichidai, a karate manga written by Ikki Kajiwara. Tsunoda drew it first, then after a disagreement with Kajiwara, Kagemaru took over art duties.

It’s a shame that we’ll likely never see the Kyojin no Hoshi / Star of the Giants manga in English (19 volumes!) it’s embarrassing that i mostly know it b/c of how it’s parodied in Even a Monkey Can Draw Manga… 🙃
