It's out! Please welcome Daspletosaurus wilsoni (Warshaw & Fowler, 2022), a transitional species of tyrannosaur from the Judith River Formation of Montana. 1/
@Riamus01 @ausar_the This was my reference image for the sculptors. We liked the jagged cutting edge & thought it looked quite scary! If there is no fossil known, you have some leeway as to how you reconstruct things, & ants cut through tough plants, so Arthropleura jaws could have looked like this.
Reminder: it looked like this in the field (we exposed part of the crest - so it looks like the skull is pretty much complete!)
I am just going to shout out to the world: If you are studying dinosaur or bird claws, Digit III is the WORST one to measure alone. It is the difference between digits that can be informative. THINK, not just DO.
The latest discovery from our summer 2021 fieldwork (@D_MuseumCenter): A mostly complete Lambeosaurus skull, the only specimen from the USA and possibly the oldest of its kind. #Livefromthefield #dinosaurs #dinosaur #FossilFriday #scicomm #fossils
Latest update on our Daspletosaurus skull. The jaws will look AMAZING when we add them! @BLM_MTDKs #FossilFriday #fossil #dinosaur #dinosaurs #tyrannosaurus
