I have to share one of the coolest gifts I got this year: a portrait of me drawn in the style of George Barbier (a French illustrator working in the early 20th Century & one of my favorite historical artists) by @jinjinxsun!
Can someone identify this typeface? It's in my own file from a couple months ago but I outlined the letters and now I can't remember. Extremely me!!!
Scans from Peter Max's admirably illegible 1969 French cookbook, "Teen Cuisine"
Champion of old stuff here with a lil' message: we have to get better at educating & explaining why old stuff isn't just... swipe to be used exactly as-is (especially when the original artist is still alive). Research things from different eras / artists, remix them, change them.
New issue of Casual Archivist! This one's about a series of expressively designed children's learning records from the '60s and '70s, and some musing on the perils of relying on search engines for all your history. https://t.co/NeP45M8yZ3
@donatoclassic Hey! @conor_draws would be perfect for this I think!
