No Shortage of Dreams — "Dyna-Soar's Martian Cousin (1960)"

A Philip Bono classic shown to be unworkable by Mariner IV in 1965 — though I'm pretty sure it was impractical even in 1960. Still, gotta love it!

This post, on NASA's post-Apollo plans, is unusual — its main source is a press conference, not a technical advance planning study.

Another wonderfully weird concept from Philip Bono.

It's a Space Shuttle made of balloons! (Some filled with hydrogen.)

No Shortage of Dreams — Just a quick reminder that my NASA-published book HUMANS TO MARS: FIFTY YEARS OF MISSION PLANNING, 1950-2000 can be downloaded for free! It's still worth a read even if it is older than my kid (who is in college).

Still writing the FLO post. I made a big change in how I'm going to present it. I'm going for a "you are there" feel in this post, then in the second post I'll cover FLO context and policy. So, one post for the tech-heads and one for the history/policy wonks. Way more manageable!

In case anyone is wondering, I've started writing the First Lunar Outpost (FLO) blog post. Target date for posting is either 5 December, the anniversary of the date in 1999 planned for launch in 1992 documents or 9 December, planned first crew landing date. Will be a big post!
