We liked the kids running but wanted to show more of the rainforest setting. Also the kids were looking too old. This was the "sketch" that was approved to go to final. But we weren't done yet!

The first round of sketches included these magical golden arrows from the book. They didn't end up on the cover, but they were really fun to play with. Also, jackalope!

Artists, do you hang up your own work around the house? Other than hanging WIPs in my studio, this is the only piece of mine that I have up (A little sketchbook watercolor I did on a vacation that still makes me smile)

Nature is a bottomless well of inspiration for me.

We can't top it, we can just try to capture a moment of it.
