#otd 1654: King Charles II (pic1) rcv'd a letter from the 3rd earl of Seaforth (pic2) in which Seaforth denied trying to marry one of Cromwell's daughters. In 1662, John Maitland, 2nd earl of Lauderdale used this rumour to try to discredit Seaforth. #MacKenzie #History #Cromwell
