He doesn't remember ever having any kind of argument with Jim who realized that the magazine would be an automatic winner whenever my dad did the cover.

During this trying time in 1962, Dad came home one afternoon clearly under the stress of the moment. As always, he didn't outwardly show it, but my mom remembered that she knew he was feeling blue. He went into his studio and for two hours painted his famous "self portrait".
