Sometimes all what's left of mosaics are hard to find drawings or pictures. I was quite happy to find last week 2 patterns I had never met before ! 😃 WHich of course I started to map !

One of 8 mosaic medaillons of room #8 of 4th century Villa Romana Ramalete, Tudela, Spain. I am creating digital drawings of these and playing with colors... Feel free to play too !
Those meanders are really cool, and really not easy to generate, but here is my first successful try, Very simple, only 2 strands, digitally generated !
Mosaic from Toragnola on Via Prenestina, Rome, 4th century. 370 × 280 cm. Musei Vaticani, Sala degli Animali, Rome, 45007.
2nd century Mosaic dug in the 19th century, probably at the Vigna della Missione - Rome. Now displayed at the Art Institute of Chicago. Some amazing opus vermiculatum pieces. WHen I first saw them I thought about paintings !
Two very different mosaic stags from Lybia and Iberia and digital images I created of them.
The Lybian one, more realistic, is an example of great craftsmanship - very few tesselae used - but I really like the Iberian one reminding me of paleolithic art.
Medusa mosaic - Casa del Planetario in Italica - Sevilla, Spain & my reconstruction of geometric elements allowing to build its bottom. Geometric Roman mosaicsseldom used more than 4 colors : White, Black, Red and Yellow, or variations thereof.
The Amazing Manara. Deeply influenced by Hugo Pratt, my favorite comics writer and illustrator. https://t.co/hjb3jFuxYu
