My current project is to draw where my immigrant ancestors lived. Often the houses still stand long after, with new Many locations are by factory buildings and railroad tracks. If a house is gone, it is now likely to be an empty lot, a parking lot, or a highway.

Ancestry & Immigration Series: The Rhode Island State House -one immigrant ancestor who walked the esteemed halls of the State House was Johanna Cashman Ivers from Cork, Ireland. In 1915 she held the position of “janitress” I trust that she served her constituents well.

As I drew the view from what would be the back of the house, I tried to imagine the first impression Daniel O'Connor might have had of his new home, in 1893. It certainly wouldn't be one of spacious skies and amber waves of grain. Rather, of soot, screeches and stink.

Ancestry Daniel O'Connor moved his growing family to from Chelsea, MA in 1915 to work in the huge US Rubber plant just down the hill. He and his wife Kate (McMahon) were immigrants, from Cork City. By this time, they had seven of their eventual ten children.
