She had been worried about her rust and his speed, but after they had cleared all of the jumps on that warm, spring weekend, she sat confidently on her horse. Watercolor on card stock. 4/25/22

He had been a stakes winner. When he retired, he became their loyal lead pony for training sets and morning gallops. Sometimes on spring mornings, the old boy would sprint around in his pasture to remind everyone of his awesome speed.

The rain was still falling steadily and he pulled the collar of his Mackinaw coat up around his exposed neck to fight the chill. He didn't have a hat and his hair was wet. He came out into the clearing and saw the big, gray draft horse seemingly content despite the rain.

She arrived at the barn much later than planned, so she was pleased to find his gunmetal grey coat unblemished by mud. Watercolor on card stock 4/19/22.
