Later, they recruit Bane, a homeless drummer with a secretive past, and Mitzy, a tiny bassist with a chip on her shoulder and people to prove wrong. Together, Hedgemaze Expo starts making waves in the competition.

One of the main competitors will be Hedgemaze Expo (yep, I stole their name). When Amber is depressed and no longer playing, her longtime best friend Jill decides joining this competition will be what she needs to feel like herself again, and wheedles her into entering together.

Word spreads about the new contest, and unsigned bands around the city get excited about what they feel could be their big break.

A wide variety of musical acts apply for the show, now simply called Catband...

But this marks the 10th year of the festival, which is getting more expensive and difficult to run every year. When a TV network offers to sponsor CBF if they can format and air it as a reality TV band competition, Carrots agrees, hoping it will help CBF reach a wider audience.

So what's the story?

It's 2007 and "Carrots" is the owner and booker of a cult music venue in Brooklyn called the Great Mistake. He's been organizing a free, all-ages music festival for years where many local bands have got their start. Catband Fest (CBF).
