There's no way to be unbiased about this one, so I'll go all-in and admit this book destroyed me. The antithesis of hope, a bitter depiction of how human cruelty compounds into cavernous bitterness, capped with blood-hot excess.
7 - Stephen King - IT
What I wouldn't give to have less talk about clown costumes and sewer orgies, and more about the ways in which small communities can turn traces of unkindness and personal weakness into existential terror for the victims.
