Well, they fixed the AI for..
SUPER BOMBERMAN 3
This one has 10 maps, FIVE players now, and costumes. I'm playing on difficulty 3 out of 3.
And the AI is smart enough to not walk into death walls or to run the opposite direction straight into a bomb they just planted. Yeah.
Map #10: You can JUMP JUMP uh huh uh huh.
And it's DUMB!! You can jump over the bombs. You jump through the screen. You know how I won? The AI jumped into the time walls for the most part.
Verdict: STUPID!!
TWO MAPS IN Super Bomberman 2 are good. That's pathetic! Not helping!

I'm setting the COM to 7 out of 9.
The maps don't have names this time, but G-Bomber is on, whatever that is. (checks) the winner of the previous match is Golden.
WAIT, that's what they picked to highlight on the front of the box? That's so stupid!!
MAP #2: WESTERN ZONE
Theme: Normal Bomberman, only everyone starts in the center.
VERDICT: DUMB
Final Score: I won 3 - 0 - 0 - 0
Matches lasted 4 seconds, 5 seconds, and 19 seconds, with one ending immediately after everyone laid one bomb. Stupid idea and not remotely fun.

I'm setting the COM difficulty to 5 out of 10.
MAP #1: NORMAL ZONE
Theme: Just normal Bomberman
VERDICT: FUN
Final Score: I won 3 - 0 - 1 - 0 w/ 1 Draw
I'll measure all eleven other maps against this: the bare-bones, basic battle mode. It's fine.
And then the last boss was super easy.
And that's Super Bomberman 3.
It's fine. By this point, my understanding is each release 3 - 5 was essentially an excuse for new battle stages. And someone pointed out that you can play the Battle Modes in single player too. Well fudge.
Awesome sprite work in general. The world of Papuwa-kun feels both alive and like a hallucination.
But it plays pretty well.
Shame that Daft Co., Ltd. didn't go on to do more. They were tapped by Jaleco to do their games based on K1, the MMA organization, then a PS2 game.
