Franken (2022, @splendidland) - PC
This free 1 hr comedy RPG(?) has more memorable characters and moments than most $60 games. Instead of lazily punching down on its genre, it celebrates what makes JRPGs compelling AND absurd, creating a refreshingly sincere, loveable world.

Dawn of the Monsters (2022, @13amgames) - Switch
The best kaiju video game ever made and a stellar beat 'em up in its own right. DOTM tells an excellent story as well, a genre outlier. A love letter to everything I love, it had me grinning ear to ear the entire way through.
Innocent Aces is a direct tie in to Mamoru Oshii's The Sky Crawlers (2008). I was blown away by how well the game recontextualizes the film's entire story. Both feel like perfect extensions of the other to the point that the experience is incomplete without both. Top tier stuff.
What is going on this week!? On top of the complete in box PVM 1341 I grabbed, I just found the coveted 20" JVC D-Series (AV-20D202) and added it to the @CRTpixels family!! Photos don't do this display justice.
Maybe I should buy some lottery tickets next??
Akihito Tsukushi also illustrated the absolutely beautiful, but painfully mediocre Dewy's Adventure for the Wii apparently! Really wish this dude was still working on games.
I've always wondered why the art in the anime Made in Abyss looked so familiar and uh
Today I learned it's because the creator was also the lead artist for Elebits on the Nintendo Wii and DS lol

Windjammers 2 (2022, @Dotemu) - Switch
Does this count? Well, "Normal" difficulty kicked my ass for several days so I'm counting it. Windjammers 2 against all odds sets itself apart as a genuine successor to the original, but also a great game all its own. Fantastic stuff.

Nemesis (1990, Konami) - Game Boy
This Gradius game is one of the Game Boy's best and cheapest shooters. I still frequently see copies floating around for $10. It can't hold a candle to its follow-up, but I still highly recommend grabbing it if you get the chance.
