I would always lightly sketch the body in first before painting the abstract coloured element, with water colours and pencil crayon. Then I'd finish the drawing off. Had I done it the other way round it would have been too much pressure not to f-up the coloured bit 😰

With this series of smaller acrylic on canvas paintings (40cm x 40cm) I emphasised the semi-abstract nature of my work. By taking the 3-4 colour tone forms of and reducing down their readability they almost became entirely colour formations.

My block colour style worked great as vector art so I started to render some compositions in my Hypermass series purely as digital images like this piece. In a way this allowed me to free up my painting style which you'll see later on.

At the time I painted the mural I was living with who went on to become an amazing illustrator.
