At the end of the day, superheroes are great at beating the fantastic plots of supervillains or alien invasions or having fights between themselves, but not at beating societal ills. So, you can write that into the character, but it avails nothing.

When we talk about comic books, we reason in Watsonian in-universe terms, and not Doylist "Its just a stupid comic book" terms because the Doylist perspective is a dead-end. Unless you are talking about a work 'as a work', then the Doylist goes nowhere.
