classified as vermin in Indian Wildlife Protection Act, Indian flying fox is sacred in India. In Puliangulam village a banyan tree is home to a colony of 500 these bats & are protected by local spirit "Muniyandi", villagers make offerings of bananas& rice to spirit & bats.
