#relaxing with a book

I haven't posted anything from S. Hee, who I adore, in a while. Little Black Cat is having a slice of watermelon while her companion naps.

I often spend a winter evening by the fire with something warm to drink, a high calorie~decadent, something to eat, and an absorbing book to keep me company. Badger and Raccoon look settled in for a cozy night in this illustration by Diana Lapshina.

Artist - Mabel Lucie Atwell - 'The Water Babies' (1915). J.M. Barrie adored her work and personally requested her to illustrate a 1921 edition of his play Peter Pan.

A bed-time story of three dragonslayers sailing and fishing in the stars. Their boat is a wooden shoe. It's a reproduction based on a vintage book illustration by artist Willy Pogány from the book A Treasury of Verse for Little Children, circa 1908.
