My initial impulse is always to do something like this, which is (imo) much better as an ISOLATED piece of design, but, in breaking his light-shape, destroys the entire composition, which is the thing I love most about this painting
Is there an actual formal term, probably in Italian, for the improbable bits of cloth or random putti or whatever used to censor a painting? As an example, my favorite Guido Reni.
