November 15, 2002: Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith: #OTD Sang Jun Lee’s concept for a Wookiee warrior. This harks back to the May 1974 rough draft of The Star Wars, where Luke becomes a god to the “Wookees,” they attack the Imperial Fort, then fly ships to destroy the Death Star.
November 13, 2001: Star Wars: Attack of the Clones: Scene 25B was shot against green screen on November 5, 2001, then #OTD Erik Tiemens completed a lighting concept for the Jedi Temple main gallery. The columns and arches evoke the grandeur of a holy place.
November 11, 2004: Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith: #OTD Erik Tiemens’s bird’s-eye view of the Mustafar mining installation with cameras indicating the progress of the Vader/Obi-Wan duel from the complex (r), down the lava river, and ending with Vader burning on a beach.
November 4, 1999: Star Wars: Attack of the Clones: Ed Natividad concept for the street-level districts of Coruscant that shows crowds of citizens on multiple levels. George Lucas specified the inclusion of a train, a detail that made it into the movie.
November 8, 2002: Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith: #OTD Derek Thompson submitted this fight idea—Vader uses the Force to direct a wave of lava at Obi-Wan, who protects himself with a Force shield.
November 7, 1999: Star Wars: Attack of the Clones: #OTD @smartiniere’s concept for street-level Coruscant and the denizens within. The concept artists had free rein to create and evolve designs, to inspire the plot and overall aesthetic as the production progressed.
October 31, 2002: Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith: #OTD @rchurchdesign’s early concept of the duel along the lava collection panels. It was reimagined almost two years later by flipping the image, enlarging the figures, and changing the background.
October 27, 1995: Star Wars: The Phantom Menace: #OTD Iain McCaig submitted a concept for Anakin Skywalker, but George Lucas decided to make the character younger. Jake Lloyd was eight years old when the film was shot in 1997, playing nine-year-old Anakin.
