😂Too right!
(This artwork is a pastel piece that I completed a few years back, and has gone to a wonderful home overseas in England 😊 )
This is how the first few layers of this coloured pencil piece looks after blending with Odourless Mineral Spirits!
Many more layers to go!
If you're always trying to create something "original" that "no one has done before", you may find yourself creating nothing at all!
Don't procrastinate, trying to think of the "perfect idea", because you could be using that time to create more art and improve on your skills :)
I couldn't use Pan Pastel in the more detailed areas as the tools are too large!
So I started adding some of the details in the beak/crest/eye with my pastel pencils! Now to move onto the feathers on the body :)

I've got a lot of the main base colours down, and made sure it is a lot darker than I need the end result to be, so that I can add lighter colours on top :)

Interesting thought!
Even though I paint/draw in realism (and often very close to the original reference), I'm always finding a way to add new colours or change the background/lighting to exaggerate the beauty that I personally see in the world.. So that others can see what I see
I felt like the colours were looking a little dull, and needed more saturation!
This stage shows you the colour I've added back onto it's head after adding Titanium White powder to the entire bird.
Scroll across to see the stage before I added the titanium white powder!
You can see in the corners of this photo that it looks wet!
That's because I've added a few more layers of coloured pencil to the background and bird, and have blended it with Odourless Mineral Spirits! I've been mixing it up by using Brush and Pencil Powder blender and OMS
This is showing the first layer of dark colours I added using Albrecht Durer water soluble pencils, then I've added water to blend it out!
It's looking quite rough and messy right now, but I will be adding many more layers to get the soft, smooth look I'm after in the background
This is Rufus!
This gorgeous boy is known on his instagram page for wearing bowties, so it was only appropriate that he had a handsome bowtie in his portrait! :)
Let me know what you think?
