3/4This is the sketch for the painting. A lot of people seem surprised that sketches...are sketchy. The purpose of a sketch is to communicate an idea, not for it to be final. That's what finished paintings are for ;) Anyway this is a fun stage for me, as posibilities are endless!

1/4 Hello #MTG & art fam! Today is the final day of my 3 day #MTGWAR marketing image release (Check out final tweet for prints info!). This is a painting called Might Mages! A movie poster for the epic "War of the Spark" saga, featuring Liliana, Gideon & fellow planeswalkers!

3/3 Here's the original sketch for it. The final was actually super close to it, minus a couple hue and value shifts. This is how I usually work. Super detailed sketches that are a strong blueprint for the final. Anyway, that's it for today! Next image up Monday! Hugs #mtg fam!

2/3 It was super fun to try a movie poster approach to this! Also, I got more graphic than normal, by utilizing her magic as a unifying compositional element. This painting was a blast to make! Here are some details!

And this is the original sketch. We went through a lot of revisions on Gideon's pose! We had to account for all the different kinds of ways this image would be used in marketing! It was a super interesting puzzle to solve~

In honor of #GameOfThrones⁠ ⁠ today, here’s that time in 2013 I painted characters for The World of Ice & Fire: The Untold History of Westeros and The Game of Thrones. They are Nymeria & Mors Martell, Viserys I and of course, my fave, Rhaegar Targaryen!

P.s for the process junkies, these last three images are the different sketches I sent in the beginning! It’s kind of interesting to see what things the client wanted! The original sketch was so much simpler than what we ended up with! :)

@krysjez asked to see some of that 10 yr old art, so here it is. This was all Florida work, pre atelier. I remember how incredibly hopeless I felt while making some of these. I compared my work too much to others, and spent more time doing that, then learning how to be better.
