Eerie Queerie! - Shuri Shiozu
I think it was about ghosts? look, i dont remember at all, but remembering its title makes me laugh. it was really popular in my highschool. i still remember someone throwing me a volume at lunch and it knocked over my pizza on the ground.
The Wallflower - Tomoko Hayakawa
oh yeah,. i remember reading this one! i had a few volumes.. it was pretty funn- WAIT IT WAS 35 VOLUMES??DA?F?SD?DG WHAT THE FUCK??????????? ARE YOU KIDDING ME?????????? IS THIS A JOKE?? i am finding this out right now
Nana - Ai Yazawa
I already mentioned how good Paradise Kiss was, but fuck it. Nana time. nana appearing on the shelves was an instant buy for me, as i was curious what this new series would be about. and my god, i was hooked. so deeply
Kodocha - Miho Obana
i ALSO was reading this at the time. but ill be honest i.. dont remember much.. i seem to recall a lot of pages that were just the characters staring at eachother silently & me going "UGH! ENOUGH!" which is funny considering i now love drawing that same thing
still, i would say the stories feel a bit fleeting in my mind and kinda vague. but i find the art very influential to me. I love how gestural it is, like its flowing water of someone elses memories. i probably should reread these sometime, because its been a few years.
Erica Sakurazawa
When I collected these manga, I remember thinking as a teenager that these were like.. the ACTUALLY "mature" stories, vrs like mars or confidential confessions. i wasnt sure what it was, but i felt like id appreciate them more as i got older. and i was right.
Urusei Yatsura - Rumiko Takahashi
i already put inuyasha on this list, but takahashi's work is one of my biggest influences and i was pretty obsessed with Urusei (and ranma 1/2!) as a teen. most of my anime figures are actually of lum, so might as well include it too.
Fruit’s Basket - Natsuki Takaya
Another love/hate series for me, for similar reasons as chobits was. I wasn’t entirely new to manga when I started to read/collect Fruit’s Basket, but by the time I got my hands on it I could not put it down.
