My favorite comic book creators are ones who both write and draw their own work. One of my favorites who has yet to make something I didn't enjoy is Matt Wagner. From Grendel, Mage, Trinity, and The Shadow: Year One, even when he steps back and just does writing he kills it.
The story arc "The Cursed Earth" that ran in the 2000AD Judge Dredd stories is great, and partly inspired by the 1977 film "Damnation Alley". If you want great post-apocalyptic comics then read the Cursed Earth, if you want cheesy B-movie level fun, check out Damnation Alley.
Rise of Apocalypse, 4 issue mini-series that ran from Oct. 1996 to Jan. 1997 focusing on the X-Factor/X-Men villain Apocalypse. I remember seeing the promo sketches by Adam Pollina and getting hyped for the series, but didn't read it until years later, and it was a let down.
@ManFirestorm @ComicPerch Exactly, if you are looking at just X-Men or Batman, something like that, maybe you can see it, but comics are more than that, even at the big two, and especially outside it. Instead of a 'white boy' problem, Dark Horse has the issue of mostly uninteresting comics.
40 years ago "Blow Out" by Brian DePalma premiered. The story of a man coming across a conspiracy that drags him down into a spiral of danger all because he heard something he shouldn't have. John Travolta's best role, and John Lithgow is great too. Perhaps DePalma's finest too.
Neon Trash my cyberpunk comics of a Peaches, bioroid "sexbot" reprogrammed to act as law enforcement in a Miami. Though after 2020 I wonder how well a cop, even a bioroid one would go over.
OFF THE TOP OF YOUR HEAD: Four indie comic series you will reread forever! https://t.co/CwTryY7V6A
Ultimate X-Men #13 & 14
The introduction of Gambit into the Ultimate universe, written by Chuck Austen with art by Esad Ribic, and covers by Adam Kubert. It's a wonderful two-parter with Gambit taking on the villain Hammerhead, it's got great art, and a lot of heart.
Who's the best Daredevil writer? I think it's easy to say that it is Frank Miller. But who else is out there for other comics?
Avengers? Roger Stern
X-Men? Chris Claremont
Iron Man? David Michelinie
What about Cap? Gruenwald? Batman? Miller again?
Thoughts, comments welcome.
@PunchDrunkKing I have a issue from this line, Samuree #1, it was a mediocre comic, kinda lurid, but that's not going to cut it.
