Years ago I created this illustration of a building that was shaped like the continental United States. Or more accurately, took on that shape when viewed from one particular angle. I tried to make it look like something that could theoretically be built, three dimensionally.
I created this for my how-to-draw CHIBI book, comparing 4 different ways of inking the same drawing. Which one most closely resembles the way you ink? For me, it's probably B, i.e. lines with varying thickness, drawn whenever possible with a single stroke. https://t.co/xcVfWDuKAD
Illustration from my how to draw CHIBI book. I had fun designing this devilish character who somehow also seems like a nice guy. Note that his long coat is split in half at the bottom to leave space for his tail. :)
Illustration from MASTERING MANGA 2. This image certainly owes a lot to my own favorite thing about visiting Japan: encountering the beauty of being out in the countryside among the rice fields.
Illustration from CHIBI!, my instructional art book devoted to drawing in this particular style. It was fun applying this "cute" approach to a character that looked quite fierce. Do you sometimes draw chibi characters? https://t.co/XjpIxaTH2d
Illustration from MANGA ART. This began as a YouTube video about how to draw using one-point perspective. Do you sometimes use 1, 2 or 3-point perspective in your drawings?
Artwork from MANGA ART. This was a funny little idea that popped into my head, though I can't explain why. Makes you wonder if you could somehow design real skates that would allow a person to do this!
Time for another one of the cartoons I created a year or so back. Our corgi may be more easily frightened than most-- every time I sneeze she reacts as if my head just exploded. 😂
Artwork from MASTERING MANGA 3. I was determined to include a wide variety of drawing styles in this book, attempting to represent the incredible breadth of styles one sees in published manga. https://t.co/Z0VjsMfasK
Another of the online cartoons I created last year. I had fun doing this one, doing my best to make them look-- at first glance-- like real emojis.
