Day 17 of #BuildingAZ is Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham (Selly Oak) It's a major, 1,215 bed, tertiary NHS & military hospital & was constructed in 2010 replacing the previous hospital & Selly Oak branch. I've visited on a few occasions & think it's rather impressive.
Week 12 of #Bridges2021 is Lin Qi; working at @Laing_ORourke @jmurphyandsons JV on the Area North Enabling works for @HS2ltd working on the installation of a 2750tn bridge over the M42. Great to see her celebrated in the @RailwayMuseum #RailwayHeroes: https://t.co/XipKWsb3D3
Week 10 of #Bridges2021 is @katytoms1; Senior Engineer at @wsp, @ICESouthWest Chair & @WES1919 Top 50 for 2017. Also running the @STEMBuildMalawi who are building a STEM classroom in Rainbow Hope School. Inspired by the beautiful Falkirk Wheel to get into engineering & people.
Day 22 of #TransportAZ & it's the beautiful Vaporetto, the Venetian Public Waterbus. Operated by the ACTV & running along the main waterways, a lovely way to experience the Canal Grande especially at night floating underneath the Rialto.
Week 8 of #Bridges2021 is Dorothy Donaldson Buchanan. A hugely impressive career including the Sydney Harbour Bridge design team & the George V Bridge a.k.a. The Tyne Bridge. She became a member of the @ICE_engineers in 1927 becoming the first woman amongst 9000+ men.
Today's #TransportAZ is R and our Railways have led to some of the most spectacular architecture/bridges. Day 8 of #TransportAZ & we're celebrating the Humber Bridge. Before it's construction was completed in 1981, crossing the wide estuary involved a long drive or a busy ferry. It was the longest suspension bridge in the world for 17 years & an impressive feat of British Engineering
Day 6 of #TransportAZ is Funicular Railways. Putting the "Fun" into transporting people & goods up steep slopes. Funiculars their carriages as counterweights to climb. Notable examples are Lynton & Lynmouth Cliff Railway powered by water & Stoosbahn with a max slope of 48 degrees
Week 6 of #Bridges2021 is Joanna Bonnett, Vice President at @COWI_UK who worked on the award winning Gade Valley Viaduct Project. Carrying twice the number of vehicles it was design to & suffering fatigue in the bottom flange, the M25 structure needed extensive strengthening.
