I had no idea what #SundayFishSketch was, so had to wait for the first posts. And learned about a new fish today!
Common shiner (Luxilus cornutus)

Completely off theme for both #inktober2022 and #SundayFishSketch but wanted to do a quick sketch of the recently described Shenacanthus way back from the Silurian period.

#SciArtSeptember theme today is “soft” and a good excuse to step out of my comfort zone, drawing an invertebrate and using pastels.
Vampire squid (Vampyroteuthis infernalis) sketch.
Today’s #SciArtSeptember theme is “mirrored”.
Apparently, the cleaner wrasse (Labroides dimidiatus) is able to recognise their reflection on a mirror, this showing some sense of self-consciousness (Kohda et. al 2018).
Day 2 of #SciArtSeptember and the theme is “monstrous”. Quick doodle of a Dunkleosteus, a classic “monster fish” from the late Devonian.
The ruivaco (Achondrostoma occidentale) is probably the rarest freshwater fish in Portugal.
This small Cyprinid is endangered due to habitat loss and invasive species and can only be found in a couple of streams.

WIP and giving another try at digital 🙄
Macaronesia islands once had a diversity of quail species, such as the flightless Coturnix lignorum, from Madeira. All these insular forms disappeared once these islands were colonized.

Today’s sketch: testing possible postures for an itchy #Parasaurolophus. Inspired in a recent paper on paleopathology and anatomy of this #dinosaur by @Paleofolk
