I'd really like to crank out a very simple NES platformer over the course of a month.
I spent lunch playing around with some concept art for a main character and setting.
What do you think?
This great looking Game Boy game's Kickstarter campaign ends this weekend!
The scope of the game has expanded quite a bit since the start (adding an RPG mode, Boss Rush, and more).
So give it another look if you were on the fence before! https://t.co/xWqMjT5Kb6
So to recap, the solution is to:
1) Cull off-screen sprites.
2) Disable rendering on the left 8 pixels of the screen to avoid sprites *popping* in and out.
3) Rest easy knowing that many of your favorite games did this too! 😉
@WarLordOfZygons @forestillusion That's not a map in SMB3. Also those trees on the right look like Super Mario World - Forest of Illusion sprites.
I was wondering if maybe this is an early prototype level from one of those games.
In 2020 I released "From Below" for the NES. It's a "falling block" game with smooth, modern controls.
The physical version had an initial run of 100 copies which sold out, and is no longer available. But there are plans in the works to do another batch!

@illugion Was curious so I tried bringing it into actual NES graphics (using NEXXT a graphics software for NES development). Uses single sprite face sprite. I wasn't able to get the white highlights in without spending some more time shifting things around.
Beta 4.0 of From Below Pocket is now available on the Discord server!
I will be opening up the Beta to an additional group of testers some time today, for my upcoming Game Boy game "From Below Pocket".
Now would be a great time to sign up, or else you'll have to wait for the NEXT round of testing.

Wow, beta testers already found the nastiest bug in From Below Pocket. Basically, sprites didn't work in a whole bunch of emulators (but happened to work in the emulators I use). Huge thanks to the #gbdev community for help fixing it!
