Ever17: The Out of Infinity, finished July 15
This game has a few great character ideas, but it's clear that character writing isn't what it's focused on at all. Wastes so much time doing nothing interesting only to have the most asinine use of meta I think I've ever seen. 3/10.
AI: The Somnium Files - nirvanA Initiative, finished June 30
Has a fantastic start and an overall great first half despite minor flaws. Then a miserable second half leaves it a game that not only betrays nearly all its own ideas, but also the ideas of its predecessor. 4/10.
Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, finished June 13
Maybe the most interesting direction they could have taken this series. The ideas it has are all extremely compelling in their own right and tied together by an absurd amount of thematic cohesion. I'm happy to give it a 10/10.
The Great Ace Attorney: Adventures (replay), finished June 7
It's clear that this game cares a lot more about writing mysteries than writing characters, considering how insubstantial and rushed so many of them feel. Unfortunately, the mysteries aren't good either. 4/10.
Metal Gear Solid, finished April 20
Definitely has interesting things to say about war and how it affects people. It's also constantly sexist, however, which brought down my enjoyment considerably. Often feels like it doesn't really know what it wants to be. A hesitant 5/10.
