October 2022 is ending with highly anomalous warmth across the whole Europe. Temperatures are widely up to +10 degrees higher than normally this time of the year.
The rainfall since 1 August in Helsinki Kaisaniemi is only 8.4 mm, and absolute 0 mm since 1 September.
However, the change is already in the horizon. Good news for both wind and water power production.
And the coming days will further intensify this east-west divide in the rainfall.

Meanwhile, strong thunderstorms have developed in the warm and moist air mass and are currently traversing the country.
The threshold of 10,000 ground flashes was just exceeded.
@LabradorIce @RARohde @ClimateOfGavin Interesting!
Somebody should also check what is going on in ERA5 north of Greenland.
Today and tomorrow will be one of the worst, if not the worst heatwave events in the modern history of western Europe.
If you ever can feel the direct impacts of human-induced climate change, it's now.
You can see it more clearly here. 850 hPa temperatures are up to 5°C hotter in GFS despite the large-scale pattern being fairly similar (judged by the 500 hPa geopotential height countours)

@DrFinland No periaatteessa sitä on vaikea havaita yksittäisestä pisteestä, koska kyseessä on maapalloa kiertävä, hyvin laajan mittakaavan kiertoliike.
Välimeren alueella se lähinnä ilmenee pilvettömänä ja aurinkoisena säätyyppinä (ilma laskeutuu alaspäin ja kuivuu).
A major heatwave will hit this week to western Europe.
Temperatures over 40°C are expected in France and widely in Spain.
And this all will happen after a record-warm May in France and the 2nd warmest May in Spain.

The Arctic is warming up. Well above average temperatures expected in the Arctic Siberia in the coming days. https://t.co/CieE7CqIhM
