@manyeyedmonster from what i can tell—twitter at least—is taking your input and creating a speed/mobile optimized output. so if you bounce out a 200DPI JPG set to no loss, they still convert it to a lossy JPG or web format.
also i think they're turning transparent backgrounds into white now, too
