The green tree swallow dragon is known for being relatively harmless and for having gorgeous iridescent plumage. This dragon mainly eats small animals and shows no particular interest in human settlements. They may nest in abandoned buildings if suitable trees are scarce.
The antarctic blue whale is critically endangered due to whaling. Despite the ban on whaling, illegal whaling reduced the population from 125 000 individuals down to 3 000. Fortunately in 2020 an unprecedented number of individuals were sighted meaning the protection has worked.
#vulnerableanimalsweek2021 Day 7 - Antarctica/Free choice
I chose to draw the Antarctic blue whale with some aurora australis! I absolutely adore whales. It is so wild to think that we are currently living on this planet with the biggest creature that ever existed.
The giant otter faces the same threats as many other South American species, mostly deforestation. Fur trade, gold mining using mercury and conflicts with fishermen are also threatening this critically endangered species.
#vulnerableanimalsweek2021 Day 6 - South America/Camouflage
So many animals to choose from but I picked the giant river otter. I have always struggled at drawing otters so I really gave this one all I got. Otters are such fun creatures and giant river otters are just really neat.
#vulnerableanimalsweek2021 Day 5 - North America/Bioluminescent
I chose to draw Kemp's Ridley Sea Turtle for today's prompt! Bioluminescence made me think of the algae bloom sparkle events and glowing beaches.
#vulnerableanimalsweek2021 Day 4 - Australia/Midnight
The "midnight" prompt made me think of stars again and I ran into the Eastern quoll, a cat-sized, carnivorous marsupial, which reminded me of stars again so I knew this choice was written in the stars.
Thanks to the work of many organisations, zoos and breeding centres, scientists and individuals, the bison was rescued from extinction. However, the species is still in great danger, and is listed as ‘near threatened’ on the IUCN Red List.
#VulnerableAnimalsWeek2021 Day 3 - Europe/Breeze
Today I chose to draw the European Bison! Large bovines are some of my favourite animals and I remember being just blown away when I first saw one at a zoo as a kid because I wasn't aware we had such big animals in Europe.
