Chiho Saito drawing Anthy winking with a bag of cookies Chu-chu is uncharacteristically leery of. It's from 1996, very early in production.

I don't know whether this was deliberate, how it was deliberate, or if it's unrelated entirely. Any possible answer is somehow infuriating.

Male gaze? Female gaze? LOL. When it comes to Chiho Saito drawing Touga, there's only Hunger Gaze. All of his art just radiates 'this is the one I want absolutely destroying my ass' and you know what? Good for her. An icon of Living Extra.

Touga Kiryuu was born in this image, and I've never seen it. Look at him, he's already an asshole. It's the moment where he's truly become himself for the team about to portray him, and he's dressed like he's in Versailles. This article's solid GOLD. Wait 'til you see Saionji. ;)

Saito's commentary in magazines and interviews often includes surprise at how 'adult' Shinya Hasegawa's adaptations of her designs are for the series. There is, let's say... A contrast, even in super early series art.
